The Planfarm Internship Program for Undergraduates

Are you a university student looking for a summer job? Are you a young adult wanting to enter the agricultural industry? Why not partner with Planfarm?

What is the Undergrad Program?

The Planfarm Internship Program for Undergraduates is a hands-on summer opportunity to work with real financial data and tools like Agrimaster to support early-stage budget preparation for agricultural businesses all over Western Australia. You’ll join a team delivering over 300 annual reviews, where your data entry and analysis help form the foundation for client reports. It’s a practical, real-world introduction to budgeting and financial consulting in the agriculture sector.

“I’m excited to continue learning and contributing to the agricultural industry, and I believe this experience will play a key role in shaping my future career.” – Marcia, 2025

How do I hear about it?
We strongly recommend keeping connected with your university’s agricultural clubs, heads of departments and professors engaged in the industry. Planfarm reaches out to these avenues directly when openings are available.

Don’t be afraid to network with us at agricultural industry events like field days, workshops, Agconnect events and AAAC WA outlook days. It’s a great way to put your best foot forward and stand out amongst the crowd when applications happen.

When is it?
The program takes place with a multi-day training session in December before launching into budget work in January, ending when the review season tapers off, right around when the universities begin semester (late February/early March).

The 2025-26 intake of new undergraduates won’t be happening until October (but be sure to keep it on your radar once exams/university are finished for the semester! It’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss!)

“I am privileged to undertake and observe a number of activities that provide real and authentic insights into the workings of farms, something which a university could never offer…. And while doing this, we get to talk to the farmers themselves up close.” – Kelvin, 2025

Why with Planfarm?

Real-world Work Experience
Planfarm has over 300 clients needing an annual financial review, which is a fantastic experience to immerse yourself in a relevant field to bolster your skillset and step inside the industry. Working closely with Planfarm’s experienced and supportive consultants offers invaluable mentorship and insight, which when coupled with access to a wide variety of information such as bank summaries, CBH reports, grain/fertiliser calculators, budget software, and in-house tools, watch as your excel proficiency, problem-solving and professional relationships evolve in the short 3 month program.

“I have developed my professional communication skills with clients and created professional workplace relationships with consultants and support team members.” – Olivia, 2025

Career Based
During the program, you’ll have the chance to gain a real insight into the day-to-day life of consultancy, build valuable skills, and make meaningful connections – a fantastic way to kick-start your career journey.

I was lucky enough to begin my own career through this very program three years ago, and I now work full-time with Planfarm’s wonderful support team. Since then, I’ve also had the chance to collaborate with other areas of the business – from agronomy and horticulture to carbon consulting – which has been an incredibly rewarding part of my personal journey. While these cross-department experiences aren’t a formal part of the program, they reflect the kinds of opportunities that can grow from it. Though a job offer isn’t guaranteed at the end of the program, many participants, like myself, have found it to be a valuable stepping stone toward exciting and fulfilling career paths.

Culture
Our culture is a genuinely supportive environment that goes far beyond data entry. Our undergraduate cohort is a tight-knit group built on camaraderie and mutual respect. Hailing from diverse backgrounds — spanning locations from the Great Southern to Wheatbelt regions of WA, all the way to India and Vietnam for international students – each person enriches our workplace with global perspectives. Here, your voice matters, your background is celebrated, and learning is a shared journey.

“Planfarm has given me the opportunity to interact with some of the most wonderful people in the field. Along with learning more about agriculture in WA, the supportive and cheerful workspace helped me polish my communication skills!” – Ritika, 2025

Shout out to the past and future
I’d like to take up a bit of digital space to thank all the support team and undergrads who help us each and every year. It’s been an honour to meet so many bright, capable minds in one place – the future of agriculture looks promising with talent like yours leading the way! We hope to see you all again next year!
